The Plan - Part 1

Since starting this blog, a few people have asked about where we're going and what our plans are... so, here is what we have in our heads, so far.

We are in the process of buying a 1960's bungalow.. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but it is pig ugly. Mr M keeps berating me for saying that it's ugly, but it is, there is no getting away from it.

In May, last year, we went away to Cornwall for a week and stayed in the beautiful village of Malpas at the head of the Fal estuary just outside of Truro. I'm not sure it was our first foray in Cornwall but we certainly hadn't been there a lot. Malpas was great. Right on the water and perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding; great pub and lovely walks... Before going, a friend had recommended a few places to go and eat in the area. One of these was the Hidden Hut in Portscatho. The Hidden Hut was fabulous.. if you've never been, then I strongly recommend it. As it implies, its a hut hidden in the folds of the east coast of the Roseland Peninsular, right on Porthcurnick Beach next to the village of Portscatho. Serving food out of takeaway containers that you can either eat on outside tables and chairs or take on the beach, the food is spectacular. The views are great and the atmosphere inviting. The friend also mentioned a few other places on the Roseland and by the time we left, we were hooked. Not hooked enough to sell up and move there, but hooked in a 'we had a fab holiday' kind of way.

Fast forward to the beginning of 2024 and the January blues were hitting us hard. The realisation that life could quite easily pass us by in our comfortable little world came like a freight train. We realised that the last eight years had gone in a bit of a blur and that if we were not careful, another eight would go by and we'd be in the same house, doing the same jobs and going to the same places... and whilst all those things are really lovely, it was, just, well... the same. We needed and wanted to do something, but just didn't know what.

I've always been a bit of a property whore. I bloody love Rightmove and can spend hours looking at houses I cannot afford, in areas that I would never live in. Scottish castles; Welsh farms; city pied-a-terre; little French chateau .. nothing is off limits. It was whilst I was sucked into one of these property wormholes that I decided to look at places on the Roseland Peninsular... and there I found it. Nestled on the edge of Portscatho, the 1960's bungalow of my dreams that, whilst being THE ugliest bungalow in the world, had the potential to turn into something quite lovely. I showed it to Mr. M... and the rest, they say, is history.

All being well, we complete on both our current house and the bungalow on 3rd May. The bungalow is being used as a holiday let, of who's bookings we have to honour until October. In the meantime, we are renting about half a mile away from it and start to take some stuff down there this weekend with everything else following on completion of our house.

So, there you have it up until this current day.. I know it doesn't tell you much of our plans but I'll leave that for Part 2.. If I'm completely honest, we are not exactly sure of our plans ourselves, so if nothing else it will buy me a bit of time.
